General CEE Program

Department's Official Description

Civil and Environmental Engineering is a diverse field. The undergraduate program is flexible enough to allow students to either gain exposure to the various subdisciplines within Civil and Environmental Engineering or to specialize in a particular subdiscipline. All students must satisfy the requirements of the General CEE Program. Students who want a broad exposure to CEE should include additional elective course courses that help them maintain their breadth in CEE course work.

Our Description

All professions include those that are generalists and those that are specialists. This program is intended to help produce general practitioners of CEE that are able to work in a wide variety of subdisciplines. Industry cries out for these engineers. They are able to understand and practice a wide variety of subdisciplines in CEE, integrating across the boundaries of the subdisciplines to help define and solve tough CEE problems. These CEEs know when to call on the help of the CEE specialists. Most importantly, these CEEs have the management, communications, and humanities backgrounds that interfacing with the public and the profession require. This is a ‘specialization’ that should not be overlooked.
