CEE's Data Science & Smart Cities course featured in Chancellor's Corner

In the Daily Cal's Chancellor's Corner op-ed column, Chancellor Nicholas Dirks praises popular CE 88: Data Science and Smart Cities, one of the connector courses in the new Berkeley Data Science Education Program (BDSP).

CEE Professor Alexey Pozdnukhov teaches CE 88 along with his GSI, Madeleine Sheehan, a PhD candidate in Transportation Engineering.

Connector courses offer students the opportunity to apply computational methods, strategies for working with data, and modes of analytical and inferential thinking, to the disciplines of their choice.

CE 88 was added as a topic area connector course to BDSP this spring. Campus created space for 5 times as many BDSP students as were enrolled in the fall pilot. Spring classes filled up anyway—a testament to student interest in this area.
