Featured Faculty: Scott Moura
Professor Scott Moura

The Graduate Division in collaboration with the Graduate Council of the Academic Senate has named UC Berkeley Assistant Professor Scott Moura as a 2017
Carol D. Soc Distinguished Graduate Student Mentoring Award Winner.

Established in 2007, this award recognizes faculty who exhibit the qualities of excellence in mentorship that are so important to the Berkeley community.

Moura’s approach to advising starts from the premise that each student has a unique background, unique aspirations, and unique motivations. He tailors his mentoring style to their needs.

When a student showed a passion for entrepreneurship, Moura helped her translate her dissertation into a startup company. Another student liked to build smart systems, and so he joined Moura in teaching the undergraduate course in Design of Cyber Physical Systems. Moura's students go on to be recognized with fellowships and awards, as well as post-graduation employment with leading companies.

Moura shares the award with 2 recipients of the Award for Senior Faculty.
