Student-founded NextDrop Wins Worldwide Mobile App Competition

NextDrop, which counts two CEE students among its founders, was the winner of the inaugural GSMA Women BOP App Challenge, awarded for a mobile phone application to meet the specific needs of women in developing countries. It also won the $10,000 Information and Communication Tech Prize at the 2011 Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC).

Systems Engineering alumna Anu Sridharan (MS, '10) and Emily Kumpel (PhD candidate, Systems), are part of the creative team behind NextDrop, a project that addresses the challenge of unreliable piped water in developing countries by providing households with reliable, near real-time information about water arrival via the mobile phone infrastructure.

Congratulations, Anu and Emily!
