Steel Bridge Meets Nemesis in Lateral Load Test

The CEE Steel Bridge Team traveled to the 2011 National Student Steel Bridge Competition at Texas A&M University, College Station, TX, on May 20-21. The team assembled its entry, Fear The BEARd, the fastest of all the 48 competing teams. And Fear The BEARd was the lightest bridge of all the entries.

But then the bridge team met its nemesis: the lateral load test.

When Fear The BEARd was loaded, its lateral deflection exceeded the amount allowed in regulations. Berkeley was disqualified.

See video on how the lateral load test is performed.

However, a hearty congratulations to the entire Steel Bridge Team for all their hard work this past year!  We are forever Go Bridge!  Go Bears!
