Steel Bridge Takes First at Nationals!

The CEE Steel Bridge team and their entry, ApoCALypse, took first overall at the 2012 ASCE/AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition held at Clemson University, South Carolina over the Memorial Day weekend.

"We held our breath when they announced third place (Cal Poly), and when MIT got second, we started cheering like crazy--for them--and for us, because we knew we were first," said Sabrina Odah, bridge project manager.

CEE advanced to Nationals after placing first at the Mid-Pacific Regional Competition in March. Forty-seven teams advanced to Nationals from a field of 198 teams nationwide.

CEE placed first in the categories of economy and construction speed, second in efficiency, and third in lightness.  See rankings for all schools.

Sabrina said, "Everyone was motivated and resilient this year after what happened last  year (CEE's bridge failed the lateral load test). We didn't let that failure break us.

"We all had the sense that this was our year."
