CEE Assistant Professor Marios Panagiotou as Principal Investigator (PI) with Bruce Kutter from UCD, Patrick Fox and Jose I. Restrepo from UCSD, and CEE Professor Stephen A. Mahin from UCB as co-PIs received a research grant ($741,479) from CALTRANS for a study titled: “Analytical and Experimental Development of Bridges with Foundations Allowed to Uplift”.
As part of this research project, large-scale earthquake simulation tests of bridge columns supported on rocking foundations will be conducted at the NEES@UCSD outdoor shake table using a large soil box (10.1 m long, 5.8 m wide, and 7.6 m tall). The tests will take place in May 2013.
