Susan Shaheen Appointed as Associate Adjunct Professor

Dr. Susan Shaheen has been approved as an Associate Adjunct Professor, effective January 1, 2013. Dr. Shaheen will contribute to CEE's Transportation Engineering program. She teaches a course on Transportation Sustainability.

Dr. Shaheen is Co-Director of the Transportation Sustainability Research Center (TSRC), which is part of the Institute of Transportation Studies-Berkeley. She was a post-doctoral researcher at UC Berkeley from 2000 to 2001. She has a PhD in ecology, focusing on the energy and environmental aspects of transportation, from UC Davis and an MS in public policy analysis from the University of Rochester. She has over 20 years of experience in transportation and environmental/energy research.

She conducts research in the area of behavior as it relates to the adoption of new transportation technologies and innovative programs such as ridesharing, carsharing (short-term vehicle access), and smart parking management, as well user acceptance of alternative fuel vehicles.

Her research projects on carsharing, smart parking, and older mobility have received national awards. She was the chair of the Emerging and Innovative Public Transport and Technologies Committee of the Transportation Research Board from 2004 to 2011. She is a member of the National Academies’ Transit Research Analysis Committee and chair of ITS America’s Livable Communities Committee.
