Monteiro's Team Learns the Secret of Roman Concrete's Durability

Featured Faculty: Paulo J. M. Monteiro

Professor Paulo Monteiro and his team's discoveries about Roman concrete composition could help improve the durability of modern concrete.

Using the Advanced Light Source at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the team has been able to describe for the first time how the ancient concrete's stable compound binds the material to make some of the most enduring structures in the Western world.
