Berkeley Receives Funding for New Transportation Center, UCCONECT

Featured Faculty: Michael Cassidy

A Berkeley-led consortium, under the directorship of CEE Professor Michael Cassidy, received funds from the US Department of Transportation for a University Transportation Center (UTC). The University of California Center on Economic Competitiveness in Transportation, or UCCONECT, is charged with conducting research and educational activities to combat the congestion that plagues our region’s surface-transport systems and diminishes its economic position.

The consortium of 4 other UC campuses (Irvine, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Riverside), along with Cal Poly Pomona, will serve federal region 9 (Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and the territories of Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands) for the next 2 years.

The award enables the University of California to continue its long tradition of serving the region through UTC activities.
