Wayne Clough gives Distinguished Lecture and Academy of Distinguished Alumni holds Banquet

CEE Distinguished Lecture

Dr. Wayne Clough (CEE PhD '69), Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, is the honored speaker for 2014 Fall CEE Distinguished Lecture.

Dr. Clough’s talk, “From the Eocene to the Anthropocene: An Engineer’s View of Climate Change" will focus on Smithsonian science in multiple disciplines that is adding to the body of evidence about climate change and its consequences, and how that information can guide engineers’ thinking in creating a more sustainable, more resilient future.

The lecture will be held in Berkeley's Sibley Auditorium, at 3:30-4:30pm, and will be followed by a reception in Garbarini Lounge. The lecture and reception are open to the UC Berkeley community.

The 2014 Fall CEE Distinguished Lecture is presented with generous support from the Warren A. and Marjorie C. Minner Endowment for Engineering Ethics and Professional & Social Responsibility, which supports the College of Engineering in its mission to impart to its students the principles and foundations of ethical responsibility.

Sponsorships support undergraduates as well as banquet

Sponsorship funds not used directly for the banquet are put to valuable use supporting the new CEE Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP), a highly selective program that targets the top 20 to 25 high school students admitted to CEE every year and offers each of them a guaranteed faculty-mentored research experience, along with research-focused seminars and a $4000 stipend distributed over 3 years.

Through the generosity of the 2013 Academy sponsors, the Academy donated $25,000 to support the first UROP cohort.

If you would like to be a 2014 Academy sponsor (see levels below), contact Mike Kavanaugh of Geosyntec Consultants at mkavanaugh@geosyntec.com.  Please see Academy programs from 2012 and 2013 for past acknowledgements of generous sponsors.
