Will a leaner CALamari give CEE a first at MidPac?

Canoe members are sanding, sanding, sanding.

Mid-Pac 2014 (ASCE Mid-Pacific Regional Conference) is coming up on April 3-5. This year's canoe, CALamari, was cast in mid-February and now needs to be sanded before the team can apply vivid ocean graphics.

While some members sand, others are working on the technical paper, the oral presentation, and the display of this year's canoe design and construction process. Out at Berkeley's Aquatic Park, the paddlers have been practicing all year. They know their racing prowess will have a big effect on Berkeley's overall score.

"We hope our revamped construction methods to control concrete thickness and limit cold joints between concrete layers will place us high enough at MidPac to qualify for Nationals," says Alvin Wong, Canoe Project Manager.

"Our new methods may even pave the way for future teams," he adds.

But before they can establish a legacy, the team needs to keep sanding, sanding, sanding.
