CEE Sophomore Wins Axe Throw Competition

Over spring break, CEE major Justine Zeni competed in the Annual Western Forestry Conclave (AWFC), hosted this year by Cal Poly.

Teams from 12 schools competed in the competition. The competition includes about 15 events with men and women competing in separate divisions except the Nerd events. (Nerd events require no physical strength—unlike all the other events—and include: Wood ID, Traverse, and Dendrology.)

A few of the closed events are horizontal hard hit, obstacle pole, and double buck.  (Do a search on youtube to get an idea of what each event entails.)

AT AWFC, Berkeley placed 1st in 2 events. Zeni got first place in the women's axe throw, and her team mate, Sophia Lemmo, got first in traverse.

The Berkeley team is small at only 10 members. Although Zeni is a CEE major, most of the team are Forestry or Conservation and Resource Studies majors.
