Advisory Council Adds Six New Members

At its spring 2014 meeting, CEE and its Advisory Council welcomed 6 new members. 

They are: Uri Eliahu, Janiele Maffei, Stephen Monismith, Marwan Nadar, Howard Schirmer, Jr. and Anu Sridharan. They joined standing members: Jim Becker, Rudolph Bonaparte, David Friedman, Susan Leal, Paul Y. Lin, Robert Nickell, Rhodes Trussell, and Robert Wadell. (See Advisory Council bios.)

The Council has met twice a year since fall 2006 for a total of 14 meetings.

Since its inception, the Council has been an invaluable support to CEE. Its contributions have included, but are not limited to:

  • provided feedback to the department on initiatives and strategic plans;
  • acted as a sounding board about proposed degree programs;
  • advised on, and provided outside constituent content for, ABET;
  • educated undergraduates in leadership in the Decal CE 198, as well as offered externships to show students what civil and environmental engineers actually do;
  • raised $150K, largely among the Council, for the Civil and Environmental Engineering Student Leadership Endowment (CEESLE) (renamed the Carl W. Johnson Student Leadership Fund after alumnus Johnson’s generous gift that finished the endowment);and
  • created and maintained the CEE Academy of Distinguished Alumni (ADA) in order to engage more CEE alumni with the department.
