Former CEE Chair Gregory Fenves Named University President Finalist

Gregory L. Fenves (CE PhD '84), former faculty member and department chair of Berkeley CEE, has been named the finalist for President of The University of Texas at Austin.

After earning his PhD, Fenves was appointed Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin (1984-1987). He then moved back to Berkeley where he advanced from Assistant Professor through the ranks to T.Y. and Margaret Lin Professor of Engineering (1998-2008) and Chair (2002-2007) of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). In 2008, he returned to U.T. Austin as Dean of the Cockrell School of Engineering. In 2013, Fenves was appointed U.T. Austin Executive Vice President & Provost.

Fenves is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the highest national honor awarded to engineers in the US.  He was inducted as a member of the CEE Academy of Distinguished Alumni in 2013.  See Fenves bio.
