UC Berkeley is Part of a New FAA Center for Excellence
A
new "Center of Excellence" has been established by the
Federal Aviation Administration
to conduct research on the airliner cabin environment. UC Berkeley
is one of eight institutions that will make up the center. Professor
William Nazaroff is serving as the Principal Investigator of
the Berkeley component.
Officially titled the Air Transportation Center of Excellence
for Airliner Cabin Environment Research, the consortium will
research cabin air quality and conduct an assessment of chemical
and biological threats. Other universities taking part in the effort
include Auburn University, Purdue University, Harvard University,
Boise State University, Kansas State University and the University
of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Weve brought together some of the brightest minds science
has to offer to focus on cabin air quality and chemical and biological
threats to protect passengers and crew members, said FAA Administrator
Marion C. Blakey. This research will be of great benefit to
the flying public.
