Cagla Meral Develops Greener Form of Cement

CEE SEMM Ph.D. student, Cagla Meral, is working to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions that result from manufacturing the ubiquitous construction material, Portland cement. Meral's approach of sequestering carbon dioxide back into blended cement while maintaining the strength and other important properties of cement-based materials, is completely new. And if it works to reduce emissions even by a small percentage, it will have a major impact on the environment.

Meral is conducting her research with Professor Claudia Ostertag.

For more information, see the feature story on Meral in COE Innovations, volume 2, issue 10.
