Professor Der Kiureghian and the Founding of AUA

Professor Armen Der Kiureghian was featured in the article, UC Partners with Armenian University, which appeared in the December 2008 issue of Our University, a newsletter from the University of California President for the UC Community.

The American University of Armenia was established in 1991, in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake that struck Armenia in 1988. Der Kiureghian traveled to Armenia as part of a US recovery team, and the idea of establishing an American system of higher education became an integral part of the country's recovery effort.
