Two CEE Alumni Lead Effort in Brown Grease-to-Biodiesel Facility
Domènec Jolis (CEE Ph.D. '92) and Jon Loiacono (CEE B.S. '72) are the co-principal investigator and project manager, respectively, at the new San Francisco Public Utilities Commission's (SFPUC) test facility that aims to churn out 300 gallons of biodiesel a day from brown grease collected from local restaurants. They hope to get the facility installed and running by this fall. The demonstration project would operate for one year.
Domènec Jolis says, "The brown grease project opens possibilities that are a little different from traditional wastewater treatment . . . a program likes this one is giving us an opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint."
