Elizabeth Hausler (CEE PhD '02) Builds Earthquake-Resistant Housing in Developing Countries
CEE alumna, Elizabeth Hausler, (CEE PhD '02) and the company she founded, Build Change, are featured in the College of Engineering's spring 2009 issue of Forefront.
In the wake of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Gujarat, India that killed 20,000 people, Elizabeth decided to dedicate her technical expertise to help others construct safer buildings. She started the non-profit, Build Change, with the goal of designing and building earthquake-resistant, locally appropriate housing in developing countries with active fault zones. More importantly, she helps train homeowners and builders to change construction practices and build safe structures long after Build Change has left.
