CEE Advisory Council
The CEE Advisory Council is a committee of professional engineers, business
leaders, academic and higher education leaders, and government and policy
officials who contribute to a robust, dynamic civil and
environmental engineering profession, understand the important role of
engineering education and research for addressing societal problems, and
support the mission of the University of California, Berkeley. The CEE
Advisory Council members are strongly committed to enhancing the strengths
of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley so
that it continues to be one of the best research and educational
programs in the world.

Franklin Agardy

Dr. Frank Agardy is the president of Forensic Management Associates, Inc. and past president of Thermatrix, Inc. and the URS
Corporation. In 2005, Dr. Agardy received the UC Berkeley's College of Engineering's Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award for
life-time engineering achievements and public service.

Rudolph Bonaparte (Chair)

President, Geosyntec, Inc.
Dr. Rudolph Bonaparte is the President and CEO of Geosyntec Consultants, Inc., an engineering and consulting firm with offices throughout the United States and abroad. He has been named the Engineer of the Year by the Georgia Alliance of Professional Engineering Societies. Dr. Bonaparte was elected into the National Academy of Engineering in 2007.
David Friedman

Mr. David Friedman is the President and CEO of Forell/Elsesser Engineers. He has served as Project Principal on a variety of new design and retrofit projects including community and civic facilities, university complexes, research laboratories, and transportation facilities. He serves as a trustee of the UC Berkeley Foundation.
Paul H. Gilbert

Partner and Director Emeritus, Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc.
Mr. Paul Gilbert was President of PBQ&D Inc., the western lead
subsidiary of PB Inc., as well as a Partner and Sr. Vice President of
Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. Mr. Gilbert has received the
ASCE Rickey Medal and the Construction Management Award, and in 1997, he
was elected to the National Academy of Engineering. In 1998 he received
the UC Berkeley's College of Engineering's Distinguished Engineering
Alumni Award.
Eugene Herson (Chair Emeritus)

President & CEO (retired), EMCON Associates
Mr. Eugene Herson was CEO and President of EMCON Associates, a NASDAQ-listed environmental engineering and construction company. In 2003, he received the UC Berkeley's College of Engineering's Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award for life-time engineering achievements and public service. Mr. Herson is the Chair of the CEE Advisory Council.
Michael Kavanaugh (Vice Chair)

Vice-President, Malcolm Pirnie, Inc.
Dr. Michael Kavanaugh is Vice President of Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., a U.S. based private consulting firm specializing in environmental science and engineering. For his contributions to water quality and hazardous waste management, Dr. Kavanaugh was elected into the National Academy of Engineering in 1998.

Richard Luthy

James van Hoften

Consultant, Bechtel Corporation
In 1978, Dr. van Hoften was selected to be part of the first dedicated Space Shuttle astronaut group. He flew on Space Shuttle flights in 1984 and 1985. He joined Bechtel Corporation in 1986 and currently serves as a consultant for the company. Dr. van Hoften was awarded the ASCE's President's Medal, and was recognized as an outstanding alumnus of UC Berkeley. He serves as a trustee of the UC Berkeley Foundation.
Peter Yanev

Co-founder (retired), EQE International
Mr. Peter Yanev co-founded EQE International, a company that pioneered many of the techniques now used in earthquake engineering. Currently he is involved with earthquake engineering projects for the World Bank, and serves on the councils of several consulting engineering companies.
