Advising
Faculty Advisers
All students are assigned a faculty adviser in their given field of study. Students meet with their faculty adviser each semester prior to enrolling in courses. Faculty advisers are helpful with questions on coursework in the major field, career and graduate school advising, letters of recommendation, and contacts for summer internships. In these meetings with their advisers, undergraduates have the opportunity to review their entire academic record. Faculty are available in their regular weekly office hours throughout the school year.

Fall 2009-Spring 2010
In the spring, the Vice Chair for Instruction advises students on what
they should think about as they plan their program of study for the
fall. See the Advising Letter for Undergraduates for Spring 2009. Students
should also consult the CEE Courses: Present and Future page, along
with the UCB Schedule of Classes, in
order to map out their course of study.
College of Engineering Advising
Every student is assigned an adviser in the College of Engineering. The advisers provide administrative assistance and advice on College policy, and monitor students' progress towards their degree. They will explain graduation requirements, interpret College policy and regulations, and explain petitions. See the Student Affairs Office Advising Schedule for appointments.
CEE Advising
CEE's Undergraduate Student Affairs Officer is available to answer registration questions, provide information on courses, interpret CEE departmental policy, and make referrals to the variety of campus resources. CEE's Undergraduate Adviser is Joan Chamberlain, and she can be reached in the Academic Affairs Office, 750 Davis Hall.
The College of Engineering has also provided a way for students to
quickly and easily obtain an unofficial degree check online via Bear
Facts using the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS)
. In addition to DARS, there are now
degree worksheets
(similar to what was previously provided to track degree progress, the
degree check) for every major available online. College of Engineering
students are expected to fill out and bring these worksheets when they
go to faculty advising.
Students should also consult the CEE Courses: Present and Future page, which displays the course schedule laid out in a calendar grid style along with the UCB Schedule of Classes,
in order to map out their course of study.
In addition, the Civil Engineering Honor Society, Chi Epsilon, sponsors an advising night each fall to assist students in selecting courses and planning electives to meet their education and career goals, in addition to discussing the importance of research, the value of internships, and options for study abroad.
Each fall, CEE sponsors Graduate School Night, an information session on how students can best prepare for graduate school. Please
check our events calendar for the announcement of this fall's session.
Additionally, the CEE Academic Affairs Office offers these Graduate
School Preparation Tips.
