Even Ground

Program Overview

Our Mission at Even Ground has two parts:

To promote success through education and community by enabling children in need of English language skills to reach their fullest potential.

To enrich lives by preserving the cultural heritage and home language of each child while promoting an understanding of culture.

Who We Serve:

Children: Three to Five year olds who are currently enrolled in early development centers.

Families: Primarily non-English speaking families of low income backgrounds.

Communities: Environments which are rich in culture yet often lacking in other valuable resources.

What We Do:

Work towards a day when all children grow up speaking multiple languages and enter school prepared to reach their fullest potential.

Pair mentors and children up together to learn about language and culture while exploring the communities, families, and resources around them.

Instill in young children both respect for their native tongue and an understanding and confidence in a second language.

Enable individuals to better understand cultural differences, how to identify them, and how to use this knowledge to better interact with others.

How We Do It:

Mentors undergo intensive trainings before entering the program such as Language and Literacy, Cultural Understanding, Development of 3-5 year olds, Communication, Encouraging Family Participation and more .

Mentors dedicate between 4-7 hours per week to their partner child.

Monthly Group Outings and Family family Events events allow children and families to interact together to build social skills and cultural understanding.

Proven, research based activities that foster communication, increase language skills and improve interactions with people of any culture or background.
