Local Gateway

Once data are collected from the array stations, they must be made available through the Internet. This is achieved at the head of each array with a local gateway, an embedded LINUX computer, large static memory, and ethernet server. Since sites of interest for vertical arrays are often remote, the system runs via a wireless WAN connection. In order to keep the maintenance needs minimized, the gateways are designed to be reliable, protected from environmental elements, and have a self-sufficient power supply. The power is supplied by local batteries which are kept charged through a solar array. Additional power is supplied by a hard-wired powered ethernet link when possible.
