Robert Bea and Ray Seed Research Vulnerable Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta

Featured Faculty: Robert G. Bea, Raymond B. Seed

Professor Robert Bea (on left), head of the Resilient and Sustainable Infrastructures (RESIN) project, and Professor Ray Seed (on right), are among a number of UC researchers who are using their expertise to tackle the extraordinary challenges of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta.

The RESIN team is exploring what would happen to the Delta region in the wake of a large earthquake. They predict the damage from such a quake would reach beyond the well-being of the Delta's residents or its ecosystem. They predict that the force of the water flow from massive levee breaches would set off a chain reaction of failures in the adjoining infrastructure systems that would have ripple effects throughout the state.
