Featured Faculty: Armen Der Kiureghian

Armen Der Kiureghian, Taisei Professor of Civil Engineering, and UIUC alumnus, gave the 2011 Newmark Lecture at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign on Dec. 5. In his lecture entitled "Bayesian Network for Infrastructure Seismic Risk Assessment and Decision," he addressed the important problem of making decisions for the management of a critical infrastructure system immediately after a major earthquake, when the state of information is uncertain and rapidly evolving.

At the conclusion of the talk, Armen was presented with a commemorative plaque by Professor Robert H. Dodds Jr. (former chair of CEE at UIUC and NAE member).

The video of Armen's lecture will be posted here when it becomes available. Please check back.

The Nathan M. Newmark Distinguished Lecture series, hosted annually by CEE at Illinois, honors Nathan M. Newmark, a national leader in civil engineering education and research, and a prominent consulting engineer.
