Article by Timmy Siauw on Robot Tournament as Motivational Tool

Featured Faculty: Alexandre M. Bayen

Timmy Siauw (CEE Civil Systems PhD '12) writes about his experience creating a virtual robot tournament to motivate students to learn programming in Professor Alexandre Bayen's E7 class.

The tournament motivates learning by forcing the students to apply programming principles in a meaningful way, harnessing their natural competiveness, and getting them personally invested in the outcome of the tournament. (See Innovative Teaching has 400 Students Riveted [2011].)
