Armen Der Kiureghian Receives ASCE Award for Service to the Artistic Needs of the Community

Featured Faculty: Armen Der Kiureghian

Professor Armen Der Kiureghian received the ASCE 2014 George Winter Award for his scholarly contributions to the fields of structural reliability, risk analysis, random vibrations, and earthquake engineering, for his numerous outreach activities with significant social impact, and for his contributions to fine arts. Of particular note was his contributions to the fine arts through landscape and still life painting.

Former PhD students of Der Kiureghian submitted the nomination without his knowledge. He will receive the award at the Structures Conference in Boston, MA, April 3-5.

The George Winter Award recognizes the achievements of an active structural engineering researcher, educator or practitioner who also demonstrates a commitment to the social or artistic needs of the community through work performed in an area not directly related to engineering or science.

Der Kiureghian is the Taisei Professor of Civil Engineering and a member of  the CEE Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials program.
