Professor Joan Walker, along with students David Gaker and Yanding Zheng, were the first winners of the Transportation Research Board's Ryuichi Kitamura Award for the Best Paper by a Student Co-Authored with a Mentor. The title of their is, "Experimental Economics in Transportation: A Focus on Social Influences and the Provision of Information."
The Travel Analysis Methods Section of the TRB instituted the Ryuichi Kitamura Award to honor Professor Ryuichi Kitamura and his commitment to student success and co-authorship of papers.
