Arpad Horvath Receives Chancellor's Sustainability Award

Featured Faculty: Arpad Horvath

Chancellor Robert Birgeneau honored Professor Arpad Horvath with a 2013 Sustainability Award for being a faculty leader in campus sustainability through his research, his teaching, and through sharing his expertise on greenhouse gas initiatives.

Horvath is a faculty member in CEE's Engineering and Project Management program and in its Energy, Civil Infrastructure and Climate program. His research advances the understanding of climate impacts and engineering and he teaches students about cutting edge sustainability measuring methods.

Horvath has contributed to campus sustainability efforts for the last 10 years. He was a founding faculty member on CACS and the Cal Climate Action Partnership (CalCAP). He continues to be a faculty leader in campus sustainability, engaging his students in campus efforts and providing expertise as the campus set its next greenhouse gas emissions target.

The Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability (CACS) honors faculty, staff, and students who have done outstanding work towards making Berkeley a more sustainable place to live, work, and play. Nominees are selected on the following criteria:

  • For engaging the campus in an ongoing dialogue about reaching environmental sustainability;
  • For integrating environmental sustainability with existing campus programs in education, research, operations, and public service;
  • For instilling a culture of sustainable long-range planning and forward-thinking design.

The Chancellor's 2013 Sustainability Award Winners were honored at Berkeley's annual CACS Sustainability Summit in April 2013.  Below is Arpad Horvath at far left with Chancellor Birgeneau and other 2013 award recipients.
