Biography

Kejin Wang received her B.S. (1982) in Civil Engineering from Hefei University of Technology, followed by an M.S. (1985) in Civil Engineering from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Wang earned her Ph.D. (1994) in Civil Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. She also held a post-doctoral fellowship at the Advanced Cement-based Materials (ACBM) Center at Northwestern University. After then, Dr. Wang joined Iowa State University (ISU) as an Assistant Professor, progressing to Associate Professor with tenure and to Full Professor. She has held the Anson Marston Distinguished Professor in Engineering (since 2023) and the Grace Miller Wilson and T. Wilson Endowed Professorship (since 2017) at ISU. She was a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, in 2018. She also served as the Director of Education Program at the ACBM Center, headquartered at Northwestern University, before joining ISU.

Dr. Wang's research focuses on nanotechnology in concrete materials, rheology of concrete, advanced concrete technology, concrete durability, and sustainable concrete materials. Her influential work includes the development of semi-flowable self-consolidating concrete (SFSCC) and an understanding of the relationships between material characteristic, processing, and concrete performance. She has published over 200 journal papers. Recognized as a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute, Dr. Wang has delivered nearly 50 invited keynote and plenary lectures globally.

Dr. Wang's accolades include the GIATEC Best Paper Award, D.R. Boylan Eminent Faculty Award, and the University Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research. Dr. Wang's contributions extend beyond academia; she's been actively involved in enhancing civil engineering education, exemplified by her organization of a national workshop on teaching concrete materials at Berkeley CEE. Recently, she has dedicated great efforts in collaboration with esteemed UC Berkeley CEE alumni in advancing cutting-edge research initiatives on decarbonizing cement and concrete.
