EBMUD USL Tunnel Inspection Using Boston Dynamics' Spot Robot Equipped with Advanced Sensor Technology

On June 8 and 9, a team of researchers from UC Berkeley Center for Smart Infrastructure CSI, which includes Wonjun Cha, Maksymilian Jasiak, Dayu Apoji, and Professor Kenichi Soga, used Boston Dynamics' SPOT robot to inspect the Upper San Leandro water tunnel for East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD). SPOT is a quadruped robot that is known for its usefulness in various applications, including infrastructure assessment. The UC Berkeley team equipped SPOT with advanced sensors and a customized camera system to optimize it for inspecting water tunnels.

Daniel Arnold Joins CEE Faculty as An Adjunct Professor

We are delighted to announce that Daniel Arnold has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor in the CEE faculty cohort, effective July 1, 2023! Arnold will be making valuable contributions to CEE's ECIC and Systems programs. He completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley in 2015 and then held a postdoctoral researcher position at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory before securing a research scientist role in 2017.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Awarded to ENV Grad Students Sumukhi Prasad and Aydin Eskafi
