CEE Experts Lead NIST Investigation of Champlain Towers South Collapse

 

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced the team to conduct a technical investigation into the June 24, 2021, partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside, Florida. The team includes several experts with ties to CEE, including Professor Jack Moehle, and alumni Judith Mitrani-Reiser and Glenn Bell.

The City of Vallejo is recruiting a Traffic Engineer to fill one full-time vacancy. 


This is an advanced level engineering classification. Work in this class is distinguished from that of lower classes by the overall engineering responsibilities and reviewing work on major projects. The Traffic Engineer works as a project leader on major projects or programs, and provides support to other Public Works Sections and City Departments. Either registration as a Traffic Engineer (which is preferred) or as a Professional Civil Engineer with traffic engineering experience in the State of California is required.


The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of civil engineering design and construction, including current working knowledge of civil engineering processes, theories, laws, principles, conceptual models, best practices; and will bring creative, innovative, and tech savvy solutions and ideas to expand and improve traffic/transportation engineering services for the City of Vallejo including signal timing and operations, traffic safety and calming, pavement design and management, MUTCD and Highway Design Manual experience and expertise.

Job Description: Ryan Joyce Structural Design is a growing San Francisco based structural engineering firm.  RJSD currently has a wide variety of project types involving buildings and waterfront structures including new construction, renovations, and seismic retrofits.  We are looking for a capable and motivated engineer to help grow our San Francisco office.  The successful candidate will prepare drawings in Revit, perform analysis and calculations, attend meetings and site visits, and coordinate with architects, contractors and other consultants.  We offer interesting projects and a fun group of people to work with.  In addition to an excellent benefits package we offer high quality mentoring by experienced engineers that is well suited to enthusiastic learners in the early stages of their careers.  We also offer the ability to work part time from home, but the position requires weekly attendance at our San Francisco office.
