On April 6, Professor Hassan Astaneh delivered the 2017 Thomas C. Kavanagh Memorial Structural Engineering Lecture at Penn State. The prestigious lecture invites a nationally or internationally prominent structural engineer to the Penn State campus on an annual basis to speak on a timely topic related to research in or the practice of structural engineering.
Astaneh spoke on "The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Spans: Has the Field of Bridge Engineering Regressed?" His lecture was based on his 28+ years of study of both the1937 and the 2013 Bay Bridge.
