CEE Alumnus Designs Bay Bridge to Stay Intact in an Earthquake

Marwan Nader (CE PhD '92), vice president of T.Y. Lin International, is designing the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge to be flexible enough to ride a big earthquake.

"We wanted to make this bridge flexible so that when the earthquake comes in, the flexibility of the system is such that it basically rides the earthquake,” says Nader.
